Selena
She broke down barriers within the world of music in her roles as a performer, singer and designer. She was the first Mexican American singer that was modern and traditional. She brought both cultures together and brought Tejano music into mainstream culture. She was a rising star whose untimely passing splintered it. And as is common with a talented, charismatic and young musician is lost too quickly and is buried, many mourned the greatness she was yet to attain. In the years since, her admirers are working even harder in an effort to keep in mind what she's achieved. Selena, the Tejano artist who was tragically shot to death in a shooting accident, caused an Latino response that could be compared with the response to Elvis Presley's and John Lennon's death. Selena was a hugely well-known singer for Latinos across North America. But her songs touched the hearts of both young and old. Selena is an edgy sexually attractive performer who is sometimes described in the media as Latina Madonna. She's also an admired role model since off stage Selena has a family-oriented attitude and actively takes part in anti-drug initiatives.
